Up to date update!

Today was a balmy (correction: stinking hot) 37 degrees and let me tell you how tempting the concrete shell looked, you could just about 'taste' the cool blue water...................................

My plan is to keep well away from the house tomorrow, the promise of what will soon be, may just be too hard to take when it reaches the expected 39 degrees.

So, a quick update... We have tiles, headers, a planter box and liquid limestone paths....Yippppeeee.

First up is the Tiles.  We chose a black mosaic 'look' tile, it is actually a standard 20x 20cm tile made to look like mosaics.  Very cool.

 Then it was the 'headers' which are the pavers that sit around the edge of the pool.

Then.... The Planter box.  The front is formed when they concreted the pool and the back and sides are brick.  They are then covered with the stone cladding we chose called 'Bush' or something like that.

Lastly, the liquid limestone path, which was poured today!  Looks VERY, VERY, VERY yellow at the moment but I have been reassured that when it dries it will fade to the white colour of the headers.

Tomorrow, they will be back to put the lines in the liquid limestone so it looks like limestone slabs and tidy them up.

The shell

Well it's official we have what looks like a pool in the garden!  Was very exciting to see our plans and designs in the flesh, it is much wider than I was expecting but looks awesome I can already picture myself swimming.

So, on Friday they finished the formwork and the steel rods that form a sort of frame for the concrete to attach too.

They then had to prepare for the arrival of the concrete.

 

Whooo Hoo the truck is here!  There ended up being 3 trucks by the end of the day, that is a whole heap of cement.

The concrete was then sprayed on using a big hose.

I expected it to take all day as it seemed like such a slow process, however, once they got started it was all over and done with in 4 hours which included the screading.  There was 6 men in the pool at one stage.
Was great to see it take shape.

My one disappointment is that we didn't make the planter boxes deeper. I have been assured that they will be fine once all the wood and things are taken away but once the back wall is built up I think I am going to be limited to what plants we can put in.  Nevermind.

If the garden wasn't dug up enough they have dug up the rest today to make way for the water and electricity pipes.

Day 2 & 3

It is amazing what they can achieve in 3 days, it actually almost looks sort of like a pool! I will admit though that I am surprised at the shear size of it although I have been assured that we will loose 20cm on every surface.  The 'Wading' area which will be 500cm deep IS bigger than I thought it was and have noticed that it is perfect size for me to wallow with a drink in hand of course..  :-)

Yesterday, they did half of the formwork and today they finished digging out the deep end and the formwork.  The digger driver showed his skill in maneuvering the bobcat as there was a couple of times I looked out the window and saw it teetering precariously on it's front wheel bits.

It was also a stinking hot 36degrees today.
